WASM Dragons and 737 Mapping Mayhem
2026-05-02
Captain TX battles WASM crashes and remaps controls in a day filled with ups and downs.
Flight Log: A Chaotic Journey
On this fine day, I embarked on a well-planned flight out of the Midwest, aiming straight for the neon lights of Las Vegas. The taxi and takeoff went off without a hitch, but just when I thought I was in the clear, the dreaded WASM crash struck—like an unwelcome ghost from the Bermuda Triangle.
Reloading for Success
After a quick reload (skipping the taxi, because who has time for that?), I meticulously cleaned up my flight plan, convinced that my troubles were behind me. However, the skies had other plans and soon I found myself grappling with the WASM dragon yet again.
A Day of Diversions
Realizing the big tin was not my friend today, I temporarily surrendered it. Instead, I turned my attention to re-mapping controls for the Asobo Grand Caravan and the Black Square Caravan. A scenic adventure ensued, with a few delightful flights out of:
- Astoria
- Hoquiam
- Renton
- A quick jog up to Friday Harbor
After satisfying my scenic cravings, the itch for the big tin returned. This time, I consciously chose to dodge the WASM crash and reloaded the iFly 737-MAX—an aircraft I had briefly explored some months back but never fully conquered.
Mapping Madness
Well past midnight, I dove into the tedious task of button mapping. With all the lights completed, I embarked on the overhead controls. Thankfully, most of the mapping is a breeze in this aircraft as the variables are categorized quite well. Though I had to do a bit of digging for some, the real challenge lies in getting feedback. You know, like when you hit the APU start button and actually want to confirm that the APU has, in fact, started. Indicators on the controls would be a nice touch!
Closing Thoughts
As fatigue set in and my iFly variable module locked up for a few times, the universe whispered that it was time for some shuteye. Additionally, I encountered some site issues today—it seems it enjoyed randomly stopping secure traffic. Who knows if it’s a bot problem or if I just need to revisit some throttle code!
If you didn't make it back when it was up, I trust that you’re reading this after successfully returning. So here’s a toodles from the flight deck. Fly safe, and for the love of all that’s holy, stop playing in the blue water!
