Frankenstein Meets Flight Sim: The Birth of Our New Website
2026-04-29
Captain TX dives into the chaotic origins of our new website, exploring the fun and pitfalls of coding with AI.
The Creation of Our New Website
Or as I like to call it, "Was Frankenstein Really That Bad of an Idea?" Welcome aboard, folks! Buckle up as we take a whimsical journey through the tangled web of code and innovation that's led to our shiny new site.
Messing About with APIs
For the past year, I've been tinkering away with OnAir API calls, like a mad scientist in a virtual lab, mostly building flight reports for Discord and constructing databases to flex my coding muscles. Because, you know, my real job doesn't provide me with enough SQL engines to run. I needed just one more to really kick things up a notch!
Vibe and AI Coding Programs
There's been a lot of chatter about 'Vibe' and AI coding programs lately, and I decided to take the plunge. I plinked around with an AI engine and that highly coveted Python engine, just to see what kind of digital magic we could conjure with my data. Spoiler alert: it's a blast! But it's also a little intense. Getting AI to do what you want is easy; getting it to do it right is a different ball game. Remember folks, it’s not what you ask; it’s how you ask.
A Fondness for Debugging
Having been knee-deep in code since the mid-90s, I've survived the great code patch of the century (thanks Y2K!). Debugging can be a love-hate relationship—sometimes rewarding, sometimes making you question your sanity as you talk to yourself in strange languages. So, letting AI handle some of the grunt work means I can sift through the blunders later. Just another day at the virtual office!
Watch Out for the AI Rewrites
Now, here’s the kicker: AI has a tendency to rewrite base code on different passes. If you change something in the base and don’t send the updated file back to AI, it’ll revert your change faster than a priest trying to get you to confess. That’s not a pleasant surprise!
A Glimpse of the New Site
What you see on our new site is a product of some swift AI work to present data in a semi-readable format. The API stuff took many little moments of perfection over the last few years, and just to keep things interesting, there’s still a small routine lurking on my server that pulls and databases every flight logged with FSHUB.IO.
Future Plans? Maybe...
I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do with all of it, but at some point, I had a plan to make a plan to plan something... or something like that. Planning is overrated, right?
Let's Hear From You!
Anyway, I hope you all have fun exploring the new site! I would love to hear your ideas on what we could do next. I'm sure I can add just about anything—just let me know what you’re thinking!
